Licensed Trades & Regulated Work in Your Kitchen

Moving a sink, adding power points or opening up a wall turns part of a kitchen renovation into regulated work. This page sets out plainly which parts Ivan Bodnar handles himself and which parts go to appropriately authorised specialists.

THE SHORT VERSION

Ivan Bodnar is an independent sole trader and Independent Home Renovation Specialist. He does not claim trade licences or builder registration he cannot verify. Licensed plumbing and electrical work in your kitchen is carried out by appropriately authorised specialists, never by Ivan himself.

You still deal directly with Ivan from the first discussion and the on-site kitchen assessment through to the end of the renovation. Being clear about where his work stops is part of explaining the options honestly.

WHO HANDLES WHAT

The work is split by who is authorised to do it.

IVAN HANDLES

The initial discussion about how the kitchen needs to work

The on-site assessment of the existing condition, layout, cabinetry, finishes and service access

The free written quotation, prepared after the assessment

Surface preparation and suitable materials for new finishes

Renovation work within his scope, such as cabinetry, tiling, flooring, plastering and painting, as agreed in the quotation

Keeping you informed and taking responsibility for his part of the job

AUTHORISED SPECIALISTS HANDLE

Licensed plumbing: water supply, drainage and any sink or dishwasher relocation

Licensed electrical: power points, circuits, lighting and appliance connections

Structural engineering, where a wall or opening may affect the structure

Architectural design

Asbestos removal

Building certification and any approvals the project requires

#01 SINK & WATER

WHAT MAY COME UP

Moving the sink, adding a dishwasher, or ageing pipework found once the base cabinets come out.

HOW IT IS HANDLED

A licensed plumber carries out the work. Ivan plans the cabinetry and preparation around it.

#02 POWER & LIGHTING

WHAT MAY COME UP

Extra power points along the bench, new appliance positions, or under-cabinet lighting.

HOW IT IS HANDLED

A licensed electrician does all electrical work. Ivan does not touch wiring or circuits.

#03 WALLS & STRUCTURE

WHAT MAY COME UP

A layout change that means removing or opening a wall.

HOW IT IS HANDLED

Structural engineering and design go to qualified practitioners before anything is quoted on that basis.

#04 OLDER MATERIALS

WHAT MAY COME UP

Sheeting or materials in an older home that could contain asbestos.

HOW IT IS HANDLED

Work stops in that area. Assessment and removal are left to appropriately authorised specialists.

CHECKED FOR EACH JOB

Permits, insurance and contract wording are confirmed project by project.

No two kitchen renovations need exactly the same approvals. Scope, permits, registration, insurance and licensed trade requirements vary from project to project, so they are worked out for your kitchen and not assumed in advance. Contract, insurance and approvals wording is verified for each project.

An inspection also has limits. It cannot reveal every concealed issue, and what sits behind cabinets or under a floor sometimes only shows once they are removed. Read what may be found behind kitchen cabinets and plumbing and electrical changes in a kitchen renovation to see how this affects planning.
